A team of rescuers able to become involved in international search and rescue missions will be set up in Moldova. It will work as part of the UN International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG), IPN reports, quoting a Government decision.

A number of 34 international teams have been accredited so far through the INSARAG Secretariat. Another 54 teams are being accredited. The accredited teams are from Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Poland and Russia, while those under accreditation are from Romania and Ukraine. These states formed, prepared and equipped search and rescue teams that can provide assistance to countries seeking aid.

During the floods of 2010, Moldova was helped by the team “BaltFloodCombat” that consists of representatives of Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia.

The participation of the Moldovan rescuers and firefighters in international missions will improve the country’s image abroad and will enable to exchange experience in using intervention tactics, said Minister of the Interior Dorin Recean.
