The Moldovan skiers Urs Imboden and Christophe Roux participated in the second stage of the Alpine Ski World Cup, Slalom, held at the Finish ski resort Levi on November 15, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Imboden did not manage to qualify for the second stage. He ranked 36th of the 79 participants. Roux abandoned the competition during the first downhill race.
According to Petru Bria, the president of the Ski and Sledge Federation of Moldova, both skiers, who are of Swiss origin, have qualified for the 2010 Winter Olympics that will take place in the Canadian town of Vancouver. Georg Lindner could also represent Moldova at the Olympic Games if he performs well at several international competitions.
While part of the Swiss team in 2020, Urs Imboden, 34, finished fifth at the Salt Lake City Olympics. In 2006, Imboden received Moldovan nationality and since then has represented Moldova at international competitions. At the World Champions in 2007 and 2009, he ranked ninth and, respectively, eleventh.
Christophe Roux, 26, has represented Moldova since 2006. He has won the competitions organized by the International Ski Federation for many times.
