Moldovan who committed murder in the Netherlands gets 20 years

The Moldovan who two years ago committed a robbery that resulted in one death in the Netherlands, together with another two expatriates, was sentenced to 20 years in jail. The man must also pay 200,000 lei to the injured party in respect of non-pecuniary damage, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the case happened in July 2014, when the culprits, with balaclavas, broke into the house of a family in the Dutch town Winterswijk. The individuals immobilized the owners, tying them up with Scotch tape. Afterward they stole goods valued at about €100,000 and a bank card from which they withdrew €250. The owner was found dead tied. This died as a result of asphyxiation.

After committing the crime, the culprits left the Netherlands and were put on the wanted list. Shortly afterward, one of the individuals was arrested in France, while another one in Russia. They were both extradited to the Netherlands for being tried. The third culprit was caught in Moldova.

The operation to arrest the three Moldovans was carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office of Moldova in concert with the competent authorities of the Netherlands, France, Italy and Russia.
