Support to developing the market relations, technical assistance and free consultancy about business running in rural areas are only some of the elements that encourage the women in Moldova to start a business. The proposals were formulated in the third Forum of Women Leaders from Rural Communities, IPN reports.

EBRD program specialist Nadejda Mustea said the BAS Moldova program finances all types of private businesses in rural areas with majority Moldovan capital that are started and managed by women. They must hold 51% of the company’s shares and have 3 to 500 employees, mainly women. “BAS Moldova pledges to pay in the end 50% to 70% of the cost of the implemented project. The other sum is paid by the entrepreneur. Since 2005, there were financed 400 projects at small and medium-sized companies with up to 50 employees,” she stated.

Elena Branza, coordinator of the Agricultural Competitiveness and Enterprise Development Project, said in the event that the ACED covers the entire territory of Moldova, including Transnistria, in providing consultancy to women running businesses in the fruit and vegetable growing sector and in offering support in developing market relations and technical assistance. They work intensely with Chisinau supermarket owners so as to help the assisted businesses distribute their goods.

Vitalie Bumacov, of the Millennium Challenge Fund Moldova, said the goal of all the presented projects is to destroy the vicious circle of poverty in villages. “There is no money and no investment. If there are no investments, there is no money for the future,” he stated.
