None of the Moldovan wrestlers that participated in the World Championship in Turkey qualified for the 2012 Olympics in London. In order to qualify, they had to be in the top 6 in their weight categories. They will get a new chance next year, when other qualifying tournaments will be held. In the freestyle competition, Vladimir Gotisan (66 kg) obtained Moldova’s best result by reaching the quarter-finals. The leaders of the national team, Andrei Prepelita (60 kg) and Nicolae Ceban (96 kg) were ranked 23rd and 14th respectively. Donior Islamov (55 kg) was Moldova’s best in the Greco-Roman tournament and finished 12th. In the women’s contest, Ludmila Cristea (55 kg) obtained the 13th place. Moldova had 16 representatives at the World Championship in Turkey. The tournament ended on Sunday, September 18.
