Last year, Moldovans consumed an average of 130 kg of fruits, berries and nuts, or by 7% more than in the previous year. Meat consumption also increased by 7%, from 60.8 kg to 65.2 kg per capita. Milk consumption rose by 3% to 173.8 kg, the National Bureau of Statistics reported.
Meanwhile, the consumption of vegetables dropped by 3%. On average, a person consumed 114.7 kg of vegetables last year, compared to 118.7 kg a year earlier.
Potato consumption was 72.5 kg per person. The total potato resources in 2023 constituted 227.9 thousand tons. Import increased by 44% and export decreased by 36%.
The total harvest of fruits, berries and nuts amounted to 722.2 thousand tons, an increase of 17% compared to the previous year. Imports constituted 44.4 thousand tons, as 386.4 thousand tons were exported.
Total meat resources constituted 164.7 thousand tons, 7% more than in 2022. In 2023, meat production recorded 128.9 thousand tons.
Domestic milk production reached 261.3 thousand tons. At the same time, 171.1 thousand tons of milk were imported, while the export was 4 thousand tons.
