Sales of commercial products and services through e-commerce last year increased by 15.2% compared to the previous year, reaching an estimated €358.6 million in 2023. The sales of goods represent 63.9% of the total value of the e-commerce market. There is an increased interest in purchases from foreign e-commerce platforms, with Moldovans spending €344.1 million in 2023 on various goods and services, shows a report on the e-commerce market in the Republic of Moldova compiled by the American Chamber of Commerce in Moldova (AmCham Moldova), IPN reports.

According to the study, the development of the e-commerce market in Moldova has been significantly boosted by the launches of e-commerce projects during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although Moldova’s e-commerce market is growing, the report highlights a number of challenges, including low consumer trust in local online stores and a preference for cash on delivery.

“We are confident that by addressing the challenges and taking the identified opportunities, the sector will continue to grow and contribute significantly to the national economy,” said Mihai Burunciuc, policy manager of AmCham Moldova.

Between 470 and 520 online stores are currently operating in Moldova and 82 of them record an average monthly traffic of over 30,000 visitors. As many as 327,600 urban consumers in Moldova shopped online in the second half of 2023 and most of them purchased various consumer products and services.
