The Moldovans from the diaspora, who intend to return home for good, will be exempted from paying the import tax on personal belongings that they bring home. The stay or work permit will serve as a proof that they didn’t go abroad to purchase goods only. A bill to this effect was passed by the legislative body in the first reading, IPN reports.
Bill author, Speaker Igor Corman said this initiative is intended for those from the diaspora and their families. “The bill exempts the Moldovans returning home from paying customs duties. It comes as a sign of respect for those from the diaspora who contribute money to supporting the country. It wouldn’t be right to put taxes on them for a TV set or a computer. These goods were bought with their money and will be used in the country,” he stated.
The Head of Parliament added that such a law will not generate abuses as those who will bring goods home will prove that they lived and worked in a foreign country by their work permit.
When the bill is adopted, the Government will define the exemption procedure and conditions and will compile the list of documents needed for benefiting from exemption from the import tax.
