Moldova’s car racing championship starts on April 1. This year, it includes such new events as AutoSlalom, V1 Challenge, Jeep Trial, and Karting, Info-Prim Neo reports. Igor Vrabie, president of the Car Racing Federation of Moldova (FARM), told a news conference that motor sports should be taken out of shadow. “We have racers who win top places in the European championships, but they are not well-known,” he stated. The partners of the championship, who are from Turkey, plan to build a universal circuit for all kinds of motor sports. The project is estimated at €9 million. “The Ministry of Youth and Sport is helping us with what it can. It offers the cups and diplomas for awardees. We understand that it is impossible to find money for a car racing circuit in such a poor country,” said Igor Vrabie. Samir Aliev, chairman of the Slalom Committee of the FARM, spoke about the problems faced by the professional automobilists, especially the lack of special circuits for car racing. “Important investments are needed in sports. The only circuit good for karting is situated in Grigoriopol,” he stated. Serghei Gutu, chairman of the Karting Committee, said that a karting competition will be held this year for the first time. “It is a sport for children of different ages, which helps develop future professionals. The competitions are spectacular,” he said The championship will last until the end of October. Jeep Cross, AutoSlalom, Karting, V1 Challenge, and AutoCross competitions will take place in Chisinau, Balti, Glodeni, Soroca, Grigoriopol, Ceadir-Lunga, Dubasari, and Cahul. On May 12-13, the Moldovans will take part in the Romanian Championship “Dragracing” in Tulcea, on July 14-15 – in the European Championship in Hungary, while on September 8-9 – in the Bulgarian Championship “AutoCross” in Sofia.
