Moldova's Iulia Leorda wins silver at Youth Olympics

Iulia Leorda has won the first medal for Moldova at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, being the second-best in the women's freestyle 46kg wrestling competition. The 16-year-old wrestler was defeated in the final by Japan's Yu Miyahira, 3-1. For this result, Iulia and her coach, Petru Chiperi, will be rewarded by the Moldovan Government with €10,000 each. Other two representatives of Moldova, Sergiu Golban and Eugenia Tanasienco failed to qualify for the finals of the 50m breaststroke and 100m butterfly, and 100m backstroke competitions, respectively. Both swimmers will perform tomorrow, as well. The First Youth Olympic Games have brought together over 3,000 athletes from 205 countries. Moldova is represented by 11 athletes in 9 events.
