The Parliament and the Government of the Republic of Moldova transmitted their condolences to the Royal House of Romania in connection with the death of His Majesty King Mihai I, who died in Switzerland today, December 5, at the age of 96, IPN reports.

Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu said King Mihai I was a statesman par excellence, an international personality who showed visionary courage in the most difficult moments of the history of Romania. “King Mihai I and the Royal House of Romania were and remain the factor of cohesion for the whole Romanian nation and a model of loyalty, courage, dignity and generosity for all Romanians,” he stated.

In his message, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said the Republic of Moldova is near the Romanian people in these moments of profound sadness, feels compassion for the grieving family and will keep the memory of His Majesty alive. “By the death of King Mihai, Romania loses a leader with a democratic vision, a benchmark of probity, modesty and nobleness and with high human value that incorporates the history of a nation, and who will remain in the national conscience as an emblematic figure of the Romanian history and culture,” reads the message.

The Royal House on December 5 announced that His Majesty King Mihai I died at his private residence in Switzerland at 1pm. His body will be laid in the Hall of Honor of the Peles Castle and then in the Throne Hall of the Royal Palace on Calea Victoriei St in Bucharest for two days. The funerals service will take place at the Patriarchal Cathedral. Kind Mihai will be buried in Curtea de Arges at the New Archiepiscopal and Royal Cathedral.
