Money marked by CCECC is real

The banknotes marked with the hidden “CCECC” inscription, used by the Center for Combating Crimes and Economic Corruption to identify people who take bribes, are valid. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, deputy director of CCECC’s criminal investigation department Bogdan Zumbreanu stated that the use of marked money for this purpose is a principle of law; thus, if fake money are used, taking the bribe cannot be classified as a crime. Bogdan Zumbreanu says that the CCECC intends to change the procedure of tracing corrupted people, and use false money, but the law enforcement bodies are against it, since it pertains to legal interpretation that does not hold in court. When asked what the total budget of CCECC marked notes is, Bogdan Zumbreanu said that there is a classified file that stipulates the allocation of money from the State’s special funds. In the same context, Viorel Radetchi, prosecutor for special missions and former chief of Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, stated that albeit no registered cases of people getting away with the CCECC trap money, the Center’s budget still misses some money. In one of the cases the person who had taken the bribe ate the CCECC marked money, and in other cases the culprits tried to exchange the money, but they were caught.
