Parliament adopted a bill to raise the nominal monthly allowances provided to particular categories of veterans of the former Soviet Union ten times. Thus, the holders of the awards “Lenin”, “Red Flag”, “Patriotic War” classes I and II, “Red Star”, “Glory”, “For Bravery” and veterans who have the title of Hero of the Soviet Union will get by 500 lei, as opposed to 50 lei at present, IPN reports.
So far only the veterans with the awards “Order of the Republic”, “Stephan the Great”, “Labor Glory” classes I, II and III and “Hero of Socialist Labor” benefited from allowances of 500 lei.
If the bill is passed in the second reading, the allowances will be recalculated as of January 1, 2017. The legislative initiative was proposed by Socialist MPs Vladimir Turcan and Eduard Smirnov. The allowances are provided besides pension.
