A monument to combatants who died on the battlefield in Cocieri will be unveiled today, December 13, in the presence of the Nistru war veterans, Info-Prim Neo reports. One of the first battles between the national police and the separatist forces took place on December 13, 1991. Former commander of the special police brigade “Fulger”, General in reserve Anatol Gamurari remembered that the first victim was a primary school teacher. “They killed her because she wad defending the police from the invasion of mercenaries as she was mustering support for the national police. It was a gesture showing that ordinary people were brave souls who were able to defend the local power and the national police from attacks and crimes. But at the governmental level, this problem has not been solved,” said Anatol Gamurari. He also said that patriotism means deeds not statements. According to the veterans, four persons from the right bank of the Nistru River and three from the left bank died on December 13, 1991.
