A monument to victims of the Holocaust will be erected in Orhei, under a Government decision. The structure will be located on the Alley of Monuments on Vasile Lupu Street. The costs will be covered by the Orhei municipality, IPN transmits.
Officially, about four thousand Jews in Orhei district were victims of the 1941-1945 genocide.
At the same Government meeting, it has been decided to erect a monument to Nicolae Titulescu in Chisinau. It will be located in the square formed at the intersection of the streets Titulescu Decebal. The monument is being built on the initiative of the Romania-based Titulescu European Foundation in and the Romanian Cultural Institute “Mihai Eminescu”.
Nicolae Titulescu was a Romanian diplomat, lawyer, university professor and politician. He was Romania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, but also President of the General Assembly of the League of Nations and a full member of the Romanian Academy.
