During the last three snowy days, the Accommodation Center for Vagrants sheltered a higher number of homeless persons for the night compared with other cold days. The Center's social assistant Marcela Ghita has told Info-Prim Neo that by 5-6 new persons come to the shelter daily. The Center can accommodate 70 persons and is coping with the higher number of refuge seekers.
“If all the 70 places are filled, we put mattresses on the floor or they can sleep on long chairs. We accommodate them where there is place. It didn't happen that they remained on the streets,” the assistant said.
Marcela Ghita also said that 53 persons came to the Center on one of the three days. One man was recently brought from the emergency hospital where he received treatment after he got his feet frozen. Ghita said that many of the given persons suffer from pains in the feet as they slept on the streets, in basements, sewage wells and got frozen.
Tudor Capatana, spokesman for the General Police Commissariat, said that 86 homeless persons had been discovered during the three snowy days, a larger number compared with other days. “No homeless person died within this period,” he added.
