Lawmaker Veaceslav Ionita, who heads the Parliament’s commission on economy, budget and finance, gave testimony at the National Anticorruption Center over his public statements about the appropriation of millions of lei from Banca de Economii of Moldova (BEM).
The MP has told IPN that the he was summoned to the Center after he sent two official letters to the institution. “Today I received new documents from private individuals, which are related to the cases of theft at the bank, but I cannot make public this information yet,” he stated.
The head of the National Anticorruption Center’s press service Angela Starinschi said the criminal case concerning money laundering through the agency of a financial institution was started in August.
Recently, Veaceslav Ionita said that at least 450 million lei has been stolen over the last few months from BEM through different schemes that involved former Prime Minister Vlad Filat.
