Some of the MPs are dissatisfied with the fact that the Liberal MPs have the flag of Romania on their tables in the assembly hall of Parliament. In the December 15 sitting of the legislature, Democratic MP Corneliu Dudnic requested specifying in the Parliament’s Regulations if the use of official symbols of other states in the legislative body is permitted or not, IPN reports.
Corneliu Dudnic said he recognizes the fact that Romania is a partner of the Republic of Moldova, but requested that the Liberals should remove the flag of another state and asked rhetorically what would happen if the flags of Russia and Turkey, for example, were also used in Parliament.
Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu replied that the Democratic MP’s request was not correct from procedural viewpoint as he should have first submitted a relevant application to the Speaker.
The subject of flags was also raised in the previous sitting. The Communist leader Vladimir Voronin asked Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu who he worked for, suggesting that for four years this hasn’t received financing from Romania, but continues to stay with the flag of the Romanian state on the table. Mihai Ghimpu replied that he keeps it proudly, the tricolor being also the flag of the Republic of Moldova, but this also contains the coat of arms.
