The MPs gave a vote of no confidence to the managers of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (NAER) and asked for the resignation of the Agency’s Administration Board. The decision was adopted by a majority of votes of MPs on March 12 following hearings centering on the rises in fuel prices. The MPs described the NAER administration’s activity as inefficient, IPN reports.

The Parliament’s decision says that in times of a pandemic and economic crisis, the national regulator didn’t take any measure to prevent the increase in fuel prices and didn’t play a proactive role in preventing the sudden rise in these prices. Furthermore, there are suspicions that cartel agreements on the market are being encouraged and supported.

The Competition Council, which examined the situation on the fuel market and stated to probe the existence of cartel agreements, will present a report and proposals to remedy the situation to the Parliament’s commission on economy, budget and finance within 30 days.

During the past few months, the fuel prices have been raised for multiple times, generating concern in society and harsh statements on the part of political players of different colors.
