The leader of the Democratic Action Party Mihai Godea said the lawmakers’ refusal to consider the bill concerning the examination of the presidential candidates shows that information of major public interest is being hidden, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“By refusing to examine this bill as an emergency, the MPs showed they do not want the head of state to be a person with special professional and moral qualities, but a person elected as a result of the combination of circumstances,” said the unaffiliated lawmaker.
Mihai Godea stated that it is necessary to initiate the procedure for examining the candidates for the presidency in order to prevent and combat corruption in the public administration, to prevent persons who represent a threat to the interests of the national security from occupying public posts, and to determine the accuracy of the information stated in the submitted documents.
On October 24, the Democratic Action Party launched a public call, asking ensuring transparency and legality in the process of electing the head of state. The party’s leader Mihai Godea filed a relevant bill in Parliament. The bill says that after the candidates are officially registered, information about their property and revenues, financial obligations, securities and personal interests should be published in the mass media and on the legislature’s website.
