The lawmakers were taken by surprise by a group of young people who hung red ribbons at their chests this morning. Asked what we mark on December 1, most of the MPs said the Union Day. Few of them knew that it is also the World AIDS Day. “We came here today to tell the MPs that it is cheaper to prevent this disease than to live with it. We want the government to formulate policies aimed at combating HIV/AIDS. We handed over the symbol of the fight against this disease to them and asked them what they know about this day,” Dorina Focsa, the representative of the National NGO Council of Moldova, has told Info-Prim Neo The participants in the event warned the MPs that education for health, including for the prevention of HIV/AIDS, is not integrated into the education system, while the HIV/AIDS prevention and combating measures are mainly financed from external funds. They said the authorities should ensure services to protect the HIV-infected persons or to create mechanisms to purchase services from NGOs if they cannot do it. The event was organized by a number of nongovernmental organizations.
