The Liberal Party’s legislative proposal to change the customs regime for the cars registered abroad was not included in the agenda of the Parliament’s sitting, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Speaker Marian Lupu said the initiative cannot be put to the vote as it wasn’t approved by the relevant commission.
MP Valeriu Munteanu, the author of the legislative initiative, submitted the proposal to the commission on economy, budget and finance on April 13, but the Liberal-Democrat and Communist members of the commission rejected it.
The initiative suggests adopting a derogation norm that would allow placing the cars imported before April 5 under import customs regime so that they could be registered in Moldova, and increasing the age limit for the imported cars from 7 to 10 years.
Under the amendments to the Customs Code that took effect on April 4, the cars older than seven with foreign license numbers cannot stay in Moldova for more than three months during a year. Earlier, these cars were to be taken out of Moldova after three months, but the drivers were able to return the same day.
The persons who own cars with foreign license numbers protested in the Great National Assembly Square for several days. On April 13, they blocked movement along Stefan cel Mare Blvd. in front of the Government for about 15 minutes, in protest against the amendments concerning the importation of cars into Moldova.
