The police arrested several suspects in the case of the munitions found in two deserted buildings in Chisinau on May 27, acting head of the General Police Inspectorate Gheorghe Cavcaliuc said in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

Cavcaliuc refused to give details so as not to affect the investigation process, but said the preliminary inquiries revealed traces going outside the country. The discovered objects could have been used to cause public disorder.

Iulian Caraman, head of the antiterrorism division of the Security and Intelligence Service, said the objects found in the two uninhabited buildings are not typical of terrorist groups. “The terrorists usually use more sophisticated devices. Most probably, the found objects were to be used to destabilize the situation during meetings,” he stated.

According to Caraman, there are no terrorist organizations in Moldova, but there are several radical-extremist organizations. Also, Moldova is used by representatives of international terrorist organizations as a transit country. “Moldova’s geographic position is convenient for transit. We make effort to identify these persons and expel them ultimately. Their presence on Moldova’s territory represents a threat to national security,” he added.

The two officials complained that the people are not receptive and do not cooperate with the police when they possess information about suspect persons and keeping of munitions. “This is regrettable as it is about the security of the population. Our efforts would be much more efficient,” stated Cavcaliuc.

On May 27, the police identified Molotov cocktails, handmade bombs, detonators, iron bars and masks in two deserted buildings, one located in the center of Chisinau and the other one in Botanica district.

The former chief of the Ministry of the Interior’s internal security service Vladimir Maiduc stated for the portal deschide.md that this case looks more like a frame-up by the police staged with the aim of rehabilitating themselves. “The deserted building situated on Dacia Blvd is permanently checked by the Security and Intelligence Service and the State Guard Service because it is near the route of all the official delegations coming to Chisinau. It is thus unbelievable that there was an explosives and arms depot there,” he stated.
