On February 14, the birthday of departed poet Grigore Vieru, his book “The Mystery that protects me” – the last book that appeared during his lifetime – was launched in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The book was published by Princeps – Edit from Iasi. The ceremony was organized by the Chisinau City Hall in cooperation with the Union of Moldovan Writers, Princeps Edit publishing house and the poet’s family.
The ceremony started with the projection of a movie about Grigore Vieru.
“We also are late in discovering poet Grigore Vieru, who was sending us messages of national revival by the end of the 80s. These days the poet becomes a model but also the legend of a generation,” Romanian ambassador to Chisinau Filip Theodorescu.
“Grigore Vieru was the poet who managed to give power to the word,” said Chisinau mayor Dorin Chirtoaca. “He gave strength to everlasting ideas and bring the truth in the people’s homes. Grigore Vieru left us a will. We’re Grigore Vieru’s soldiers to achieve what the poet promoted during all his life,” Dorin Chirtoaca said.
Writer Daniel Corbu, the editor of the book, says the volume establishes Grigore Vieru in the Pantheon of the Romanian literature among Nichita Stanescu, Marin Sorescu, Ioan Alexandru, Ana Blandiana, Adrian Paunescu. “He entered this gallery as an equal because he was a tribune of Basarabia,” said Daniel Corbu.
On February 14, 2009, poet Grigore Vieru would have been 74.
