The chief accountant of the National Army’s Specialist Training Center based in Chisinau was arrested on suspicion that she illegally collected taxes from business entities for offering them protection and not creating impediments to them. It happened as a result of searches carried out in a case of corruption, IPN reports.
According to the National Anticorruption Center, the denouncer said that during several months, the accountant collected sums of 2,000 to 3,000 lei from business entities that signed leases with the Specialist Training Center to use rooms and parking places there. To be able to rent these further, they were told to pay additional taxes.
The suspect faces up to seven years in jail and a fine.
In a reaction, the Ministry of Defense said it condemns any form of corruption and will take measures to deal with any deviation committed by its military and civil employees. As a result of searches initiated at the request of the institution’s administration, a number of irregularities were identified at the National Army’s Specialist Training Center.
