Vsevolod Stamati, one of the vice directors of the National Food Safety Agency, was arrested for 72 hours on passive corruption charges, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the arrested functionary is suspected of asking for wine, meat, sausages and other products from business entities for personal purposes free of charge for not placing obstacles to their activity, abusing thus his position. The functionary threatened the businessmen that he would create impediments to them in the importation of products and issuing of phytosanitary certificates required for importing.

The functionary faces 7 to 15 years in jail, a fine of 400,000 to 500,000 lei and ban on holding particular public posts or performing particular activities for a period of 10 to 15 years.
