National Liberal Party in favor of constitutional referendum

The National Liberal Party (PNL) welcomes the Alliance for European Integration’s decision to hold a referendum to amend the constitutional article on the election of the head of state. “We consider that it is a good, but late idea and we want all the components of the alliance to be united in the acts that derive from this understanding and to become involved in the preparation of the referendum. We say this because we have the feeling that the decision was taken by the entire alliance, but some of the components are not sure if the time when the referendum is to take place is opportune,” PNL chairwoman Vitalia Pavlichenko stated for Info-Prim Neo. As regards the right time for holding the referendum, Vitalia Pavlichenko said that it is not yet clear. “We believe that better late than never. Until the referendum and the election of the head of state, they should not lose time and implement some reforms. The alliance should openly discuss with society and explain its position and what it will do to prevent the Communists from returning to power,” said the leader of the PNL. The leaders of the AEI informed about their decision to hold a constitutional referendum on January 15. The plebiscite is to take place in April at the latest.
