National Library invites to Music Salon “Maria Bieșu – 85 years of birth”

The National Library of Moldova, at the request of the Academy of Sciences, is organizing the festive meeting of the Music Salon “Maria Bieșu – 85 years of birth”, in memoriam, with online broadcast, on August 3, starting at 2pm. Nicolae Dohotaru, artistic director and conductor of the National Opera House “Maria Bieșu”, will be the special invitee of the event that will be moderated by academician Aurelian Dănilă and Dr. Honoris Causa Constantin Rusnac. Soloists of the National Opera House “Maria Bieșu” will perform in the festive meeting.

Contacted by IPN for details, National Library director Elena Pintilei said the event perfectly matches the services provided by the National Library, such as the Music Salon that every time involved remarkable personalities of the national and international culture and where documents stored at the Library were popularized.

On August 3, the National Library will mount a thematic exhibition of pictures centering on the life and work of Maria Bieșu, in the Alexe Rău Hall. There will be exhibited books and discs with songs sung by Maria Bieșu. Only artists and the moderators will be present in the festivities hall. Other persons will have limited access. The event will be broadcast online.

Soprano Maria Bieșu, prima donna of the National Opera, was born on August 3, 1935 in Volintiri village of Ștefan Vodă district. In 1967, she won the first prize for the best performance, of the role of Cio-Cio-San in Giacomo Puccini’s opera “Madame Butterfly” at the international song contest “Miura Tamaki” in Tokyo. In 1990, there was held the first International Opera and Ballet Stars Festival “Maria Bieșu Invites”. This continues to be staged after the death of the prima donna. Maria Bieșu died from leukemia on May 16, 2012.
