The digitalization equipment of the National Library is to be improved with the financial assistance of Japan. The parliamentary commission on economy, budget and finance examined the relevant bills in its September 8 meeting, IPN reports.
Japan will offer Moldova 43.7 million Japanese yen worth of grants to implement the Improvement of Digitalization Equipment of the National Library Project. The financial support will be used to strengthen the capacities of the Library that now does not have equipment for digitizing the book stock.
The project’s objective is to preserve the historical, cultural and general interest resources available at the library and the partner institutions. The project will contribute to increasing the society’s accessibility to library resources by improving the equipment needed for digitization, indexation and conservation of resources.
The agreement on economic cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of Japan, which was compiled by exchange of notes, was signed in Chisinau on June 29, 2020. The grant agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Japan International Cooperation Agency on the implementation of the Improvement of Digitalization Equipment of the National Library Project was signed on July 14, 2020.
The two agreements are to be ratified by Parliament.
