The Cabinet on September 7 approved a new national emergency medical assistance program for a five-year period. Minister of Health Ruxanda Glavan said that despite the efforts made within the previous programs, there are many objective factors pointing to the necessity of continuing to improve this service, IPN reports.

The new program for 2016 – 2020 provides for the improvement of the intervention capacities of the Emergency Service and its integration with other special services. It is planned to diversify the powers of physicians and paramedics in emergency medical assistance and to more efficiently involve NGO professionals in the provision of first care and in the prophylaxis of medical-surgical emergencies.

The program will be implemented at a cost of 2.28 million lei. The money will be allocated from the state budget and from other sources allowed by the legislation.
