National tennis squad qualifies for next Davis Cup stage

The national men’s tennis team of Moldova achieved a historical success. They qualified for the second tour of the Euro-African zone of the Davis Cup after defeating the Hungarian team 3-2, Info-Prim Neo reports. This is the best result scored in the history of the Moldovan tennis. The decisive point was brought by Maxim Dubarenko, who won the match against Viktor Filipenko 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6. The game at the Polyvalent Hall in Chisinau lasted for over three hours and was watched by over 1,000 spectators. After the first day of the competition, the Hungarians were led by 2-0, but they equalized the situation after scoring victories in the doubles and after Marton Fucsovics won against Moldova’s best tennis player Radu Albot. In the next Davis Cup tour, Moldova will play against Bosnia and Herzegovina, which demolished Luxemburg 4-1. The duel with the Balkan team will take place during April 5-7. The women’s tennis team of Moldova will take part in a similar competition between May 8 and May 11.
