The men’s team is on the verge of a historic achievement in the Davis Cup. Should Moldova beat Belarus, it will be the team’s best performance in the tournament since first participating in 1995, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The game against Belarus is scheduled in the first leg of Group 2 Euro/African Zone on February 10-12, in Minsk. Moldova’s colors will be defended by Roman Borvanov (ranked 252nd in the ATP charts), Radu Albot (262nd), Andrei Gorban (781st) and Maxim Dubarenco (1101).
“The boys are in a wonderful mood. They are all thinking only about victory”, the head of the Moldovan Tennis Federation Marina Tauber declared at a press conference on Wednesday, February 8.
The Belarus team’s start is Max Mirnai, 3rd in the doubles’ rankings. His teammates are Vladimir Ignatik, Alexandru Burai and Dmitri Jirmont.
“We’ll try to get important points in the singles”, said Marina Tauber.
The winner of the Belarus-Moldova fixture will meet the winner of Turkey-Bosnia and Herzegovina game. The defeated team will participate in a play-off to keep its place in Group 2 Euro/African Zone of the Davis Cup.
