A group of NATO experts, together with Moldovan specialists, will analyze the military risks and threats to Moldova’s security. On November 10-13, the NATO experts are paying a working visit to the Ministry of Defense within the Defense Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI), IPN reports, quoting a communique of the Ministry.
According to the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Defense Aurel Fondos, the experts, in concert with representatives of the Ministry, within working meeting will assess the progress made in adjusting the strategic legal framework and the national security strategy. The discussions will also center on the revision and formulation of the military risks and threats to Moldova’s security, the format of the national security strategy and of the strategic communication sector.
The head of the NATO group of experts Andrew Cullen said the NATO’s commitment within the DCBI resides in the number of engaged experts. “We have experts of a very high level in the U.S., the UK, Germany, Turkey, Romania and in the partner countries such as Sweden, Georgia and Switzerland. Our activity at the Ministry of Defense is essential and is aimed at providing counseling and assistance and at helping the Moldovan authorities to reform the Armed Forces. This is a task of major importance for us,” stated Andrew Cullen.
In the NATO Summit held in Wales on September 4-5, 2014, Moldova was invited to join the DCB Initiative that helps to analyze the current defense capacities and to identify the areas that must be developed. In June 2015, in Brussels, the ministers of defense of the NATO member states approved the assistance package “Moldova Defense Capacity Building”.
