NATO to strengthen partnership with Moldova

NATO aims to develop the partnership with Moldova, including by initiatives to strengthen the capacities in the area of security, NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy James Appathurai, NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, said in a meeting with Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici, IPN reports, quoting the Government’s press service.

The delegation of the NATO Partnerships and Cooperative Security Committee led by James Appathurai inquired about the situation in the country and the policies pursued by the Government of Moldova. James Appathurai said the visit to Moldova is a good occasion for discussing the objectives, policies and possibilities of strengthening the relations between Moldova and the NATO member states.

Chiril Gaburici underlined Moldova’s role of partner in achieving the set objectives and in ensuring the country’s security. “All the initiatives and reforms promoted by the Government of Moldova are aimed at building welfare and we further count on efficient cooperation with all the partners so as to ensure stability and security in Moldova,” he stated.

This is the first visit paid by members of a NATO Committee to Chisinau. The delegation includes representatives of all the neutral member states from Europe – Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, and Ireland.
