The average natural gas tariff for end-users will be increased by 14.1% to 4 098 lei per 1 000 cubic meters, under a decision made by the Board of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) on May 14, Info-Prim Neo reports. The consumers will pay 4.1 lei per cubic meter if they use up to 30 cubic meters a month, as against 3.57 lei at present (+15.2%). Those who consume more than 30 cubic meters will pay 4.56 lei per cubic meter, in contrast to 3.99 lei at present (+13.6%). The gas tariff for thermoelectric plants (CETs) will be by 16% higher. The tariffs of the electric power and heat produced by CETs and the heat supplied by CET Nord Balti and SA Termocom to end users were also raised. The rise in electric power charges applies only to companies. The heat will be more expensive only for the population supplied with heat by CET Nord in Balti and SA Termocom in Chisinau. The heat supplied by CET Nord will cost up to 911 lei/Gcal, while that supplied by Termocom up to 821 lei/Gcal. ANRE director general Victor Parlicov said if the prices of oil products do not modify significantly on the world markets and the exchange rate of the national currency is relatively stable, these will be the last increases this year. He added that the Government will cover the rises for the underprivileged groups of people. SA Moldovagaz president Alexandru Gusev said the company he heads asked for a larger rise. “What kind of business is it when you make a profit of about 2%? Moldovagaz has debts of about US$300 million to Gazprom,” Gusev said. MP Simion Furdui said that if Moldovagaz wants to make profits, it should restructure the sectors that work at a loss, not count on price rises only. The representative of trade unions Petru Chiriac stressed that the population cannot cover the present charges, not mentioned the new ones. He said that civil society has long waited for extensive information about the work of SA Moldovagaz. The new charges will take effect after the ANRE's decision is published in the Official Gazette.
