The citizens who are dissatisfied with the state of affairs in the country are invited to take part in a new protest that will be mounted in the square before the Parliament Building at midday on September 17. The call was made by the Great National Assembly Council of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” in a news conference at IPN on August 30. After the protest, the participants will go on a march to the public TV channel Moldova 1, which is accused of hampering the opposition’s access to televised debates.

The public call read by Angela Arama, a member of the Great National Assembly Council, says that the ruling regime is preoccupied with the own interests, amends the legislation as it likes and pushes the county towards unprecedented isolation. “The regime’s credibility before the people and the development partners is as inexistent, while poverty, the demographic crisis, people’s migration and corruption intensify,” reads the call.

Members and sympathizers of the Party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS) will take part in the protest, the party’s leader Maia Sandu announced. She said the current government is trying by different methods to deprive the Moldovan citizens of basic rights. “They try to suppress all the voices that criticize them and to eliminate all the forces that oppose the abuses. We must take to the streets and defend these rights. Now we need a lot your involvement,” stated the PAS leader.

Chairman of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase made a call to unity and greater involvement. According to him, only a consolidated society with awakened people can cope with the dramatic situation in which the Republic of Moldova is now. “We should go out and protest against the injustice promoted by this thief-government. They captured almost everything in this country, stole the state’s foreign exchange reserves and impoverished the population to a maximum,” he stated.

“We, the elderly people, support this protest movement. I call on all the pensioners to take an active part in this protest. You should not be afraid. A big fence was placed on our path and this could be removed only if we combine forces so as to regain the rights we claim,” said the chairman of the Pensioners Union Victor Leanca.

The September protest is a follow-up to the June 11 protest, when several thousand people protested against the change in the electoral system mobilized by civil society.
