The Cabinet on June 8 approved the new law on the Government. Prime Minister Pavel Filip said the Government’s reform showed the executive’s will to fulfill the commitments assumed before the people and the foreign partners. The Premier voiced hope that the new regulations will gain a majority of votes in Parliament and will be implemented as set.

“From the start I want to tell you that this reform is not about the change in the number of ministries or agencies, as some of the political forces or particular critics try to present it in society. What is important is that this bill offers the opportunity to strengthen the state institutions, first of all the ministries,” stated Pavel Filip.

The bill envisions the consolidation of responsibilities of the authorities of the public administration for ensuring the provision of public services of a high quality. The political posts are clearly delimited from the administrative ones. The post of deputy minister will be excluded, while the administrative duties at ministries will be fulfilled by secretaries of state, who will also hold the post of minister on an interim basis, if necessary.

The document offers the Premier the right to modify the list of ministries by a simplified procedure. Pavel Filip said that after the law is adopted in Parliament, he will present the new composition of the Cabinet within a month.

The Center for Reform Implantation is responsible for the implementation of this law.
