The National Council of Historical Monuments will consist of 13 members who will be experts in the protection of the architectural-historical heritage, representatives of governmental and nongovernmental organizations with relevant duties and up to three public functionaries of the Ministry of Culture. The Cabinet today approved a new mechanism for selecting members of the Council, IPN reports.
“We are returning to the principle of professionalism of the Council members, not of representativeness of the institutions in this body. We defined a broad mechanism for ensuring transparency and for checking the integrity of all the members,” said Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan.
The Council members, except for those from the Ministry of Culture, will be chosen at a contest staged by the Ministry. At least seven days before the contest, candidates’ CVs will be published on the Ministry’s official website. There will be held public consultations so as to ensure decisional transparency.
The Council members will serve a three-year term. The Council will be led by a member that does not hold a public post at the Ministry of Culture or other public authorities. The deputy chairperson and secretary of the Council will be selected from among members of specialized subdivisions of the Ministry of Culture.
The Council’s meetings will be public and will be broadcast live. These can be attended, without the right to vote, by certified specialists, national and foreign experts, personalities with scientific or practical experience in the protection of historical monuments, runs a press release of the Government’s press service.
