The museums of the Republic of Moldova will operate on the basis of new provisions, which are meant to ensure the protection and full exploitation of the sector. These are stipulated in a draft law to amend the Law on Museums, which was approved by the Cabinet on Wednesday, IPN reports.
The bill introduces the notion of “virtual museum”. According to the Ministry of Culture, this is a necessary action given the digitization of cultural heritage and the emergence of more and more entities that carry out museum-specific activities in the online space.
“I want to encourage the opening of more open-air, temporary museums, such as the one for deportation victims, where there is also a virtual reality solution. We already have a very good experience. I invite everyone to see it and I remind you that we also have the cultural voucher available, which can be used to visit museums,” said Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
“The law on museums, adopted eight years ago, requires supplements and clarifications. At least the reality of these cultural institutions, as regards the preservation and promotion of heritage, has advanced essentially. Thus, we need to come up with new clarifications and notions, such as “virtual museum”, in order to create legal conditions for the assimilation of technology by them and the compliant activity of museographers and guides in order to protect, safeguard, use and promote the museum cultural heritage at national and international levels,” said Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan.
Another novelty is that the prices and charges for the services offered by public museums will be set by the institutions and approved by their founders. Also, the document regulates the way of organizing and the conditions of registering institutions in the Register of Museums of the Republic of Moldova.
Guiding in national museums can be carried out by employees of the institutions or by external guides. They will conduct guided tours only on the basis of accreditation, according to the rules for the accreditation of guides, which will be developed by the Ministry of Culture.
There are 132 registered museums in the Republic of Moldova.
