A new block, with 40 places, has been opened for minor and women refugees in Moldova. The house was build within the Center for Temporary Housing, in the Airport area, with funding from the European Union and the UNCHR. Info-Prim Neo reports the project is part of the Program for Local Integration, implemented in Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine. Ecaterina Silvestru, head of the Refugees Division of the Bureau for Migration and Shelter, mentioned at the opening that all the necessary conditions for these people were assured. “In order to make sure refugees in the Republic of Moldova don’t have any discomfort and don’t miss anything, we coordinate the housing conditions at the highest level” the Bureau director Liviu Prodan stated. People that requested shelter and refugees in Moldova come from 30 countries. On July 1, there were 144 recognized refugees that received humanitarian protection. Meanwhile, 64 persons were still waiting for a decision of the Government. The Center for Temporary Housing can host 200 persons. Margareta has been living here for 18 years. She came from Armenia with her daughter, but claims Moldova is her second home. She works at a market in Ciocana. Another refugee, Mohamed, said he wished all the refugees could integrate in the Moldovan society. “United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees launches many projects and invites the European Union to offer financial support. However, our ideas can be implemented only through collaboration with domestic partners, such as the Bureau for Migration and Shelter within the Minister of Internal Affairs and NGOs” the UNHCR Representative Petrus Wijniga declared. The new block was opened with an artistic manifestation, organized by the Bureau for Migration and Shelter, in which participated representatives of the Government, international community and refugees.
