In order to be able to drive on public roads in the country, owners of vehicles with the steering wheel located on the right side will be obliged to equip their vehicles with special mirrors and adapt the headlights. The new technical conditions are specified in a draft decision published by the Ministry of Internal Affairs for public consultations, IPN reports.

Thus, right-hand drive vehicles will have to be equipped with special periscopic mirrors that ensure better visibility on the left. Headlamp converters, which will redirect the light for traffic on the right side of the roadway in the direction of travel, will also be mandatory. Exception will be the vehicles with adaptive headlights, which allow manual or automatic change of headlights’ direction.

The MIA makes reference to the practice of European Union states where right-hand drive vehicles are allowed provided that technical changes, such as adjustment of headlights, are made so as not to endanger road safety at night.

The draft decision will enter into force after it is approved by the Cabinet.
