New-type identity cards to be issued from March 7

The Moldovans from March 7 can apply for new-type identity cards that have the size of a bank card (54.0 mm x 85.6 mm). The card will contain the personal information, while the loose leaf accompanying the card will be used only in elections, Info-Prim Neo reports. Stela Nistor, head of the ICT Ministry’s press service, said that the tariffs for validating identity cards will remain unchanged – 130 lei if they are issued within a month. An extra sum is paid if the applicant needs the card in a shorter period of time. The aspect of the identity card was changed following a recommendation made by international organizations. The new format is widely used in the EU member states. No additional budget costs will be incurred for putting the new identity card into circulation. The identity cards issued by March 7 will be used until their period of validity expires.
