The Ministry of the Interior is working on a new version of the video road traffic surveillance system that will be initially implemented in the municipality of Chisinau and will be later extended to cover the whole country, Prime Minister Ion Chicu informed in a meeting that centered on the modernization of the video roadway surveillance system, IPN reports, quoting the Government’s press service.

Ion Chicu requested the Ministry’s administration to focus on a strategy for developing the video surveillance system and to present it for examination in the first half of February. “Our preoccupation is to ensure road safety and to reduce the number of traffic accidents. We will be interested in the amounts estimated to be collected only afterward,” stated the official.

The Information Technology Service of the Ministry of the Interior said Moldova’s video surveillance system now consists of 48 outdated units of equipment and 15 new units. The last units were installed in December 2018 and cost about 9 million lei. During a year, they generated revenues of 14 million lei, based on 25% of the processed violations.
