The festivity to open the 2024-2025 school year will take place on Sunday, September 1, while the last bell ring ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun announced when presenting the framework plan for the next school year. Also, all holidays during the year will be integrated, IPN reports.
“The framework plan stipulates the number of educational days and holidays. We have strived for next year to come up with good news for students and parents, but also to make sure that the holidays are integral, of five days each,” explained the minister.
Thus, the autumn vacation will start on October 28 and will end on November 3. The winter vacation, which is an inter-semester one, will last from December 25 until January 8, the spring vacation - from March 3 until March 9, while the Easter holidays - from April 19 until April 26.
“We wanted to avoid this year’s situation, when students, out of a week, two days study, three days are on vacation or one day they are on vacation, return to school and then go on vacation again. We don’t believe that such a model is good either for parents or for the educational process itself,” said Dan Perciun.
According to the minister, the school year will start on September 1, which falls on a Sunday. “The traditional school year start event will take place and then the people will go home. The same will happen on May 31, which falls on a Saturday. Respectively, we will have these two days of study, but which will basically be very short days because there won’t be the usual educational activities on these days, but they will be fully paid,” noted the minister.
There will also be two lesson make-up days during the next school year, on November 9 and March 15 – both Saturdays. “For these make-up days on Saturdays, teachers will receive a day of vacation that they will be able to take during school holidays. They will also be remunerated for that holiday day. In other words, they will get two salaries for working on Saturday and will have one more day off. We think the conditions are quite good and they can also opt to take them all in full and, respectively, go and rest together with the students during one of the four periods. It is a double payment and an additional holiday day,” said the minister.
