The National Olympic Committee of Moldova on August 8 opened a photo exhibition entitled “Nicolae Juravschi: portrait of champion” at the Palace of the Republic, on the occasion of Juravschi’s 50th birthday. More than 100 pictures present the life of the Olympic canoeist and the victories won by him, IPN reports.

Nicolae Juravschi won two gold medals at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and silver at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games in double canoeing together with Victor Reneiskii of Belarus. In the Moldovan sport, he is considered the best athlete of the 20th century.

“He is the legend-man and the one who made things in the Moldovan sport develop. We staged this exhibition in order to make known the history of the greatest athlete of Moldova so far,” said Larisa Popova, the organizer and representative of the National Olympic Committee.

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca was invited to the exhibition. “We don’t have a better athlete than Nicolae Juravschi. We don’t have a better envoy that would represent the international relations in sport better than Nicolae Juravschi,” he stated.

The event involved friends and partners of Nicolae Juravschi: Victor Reneiskii, double Olympic champion (Seoul, 1988), who won silver (Atlanta, 1996) and was eight times C-2 and C-4 world champion; Yuriy Gurin (Ukraine), who was seven times C-2 and C-4 world champion, and Valerii Veshko (Ukraine), who was seven times C-2 and C-4 world champion.

The photo exhibition “Nicolae Juravschi: portrait of champion” can be visited at the Palace of the Republic, located at 16 Maria Cebotari St. Since 2001, Nicolae Juravschi has headed the National Olympic Committee of Moldova.
