President Nicolae Timofti will not present himself before the parliamentary commission of inquiry into the tragic hunting incident in the Domneasca Forest. According to a communiqué from the presidential press service, the MPs do not have the right to put questions to the head of state. On the other hand, the commission’s chairman Anatolie Zagorodnyi said that the reason invoked is illogical, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The communiqué says that when inviting the head of state to the questioning, the commission of inquiry didn’t take into account the legal provisions concerning the powers and duties of the President. Under Article 122 “Putting of questions” and Article 125 “Submitting and examination of challenges” of the Parliament’s Regulations, the lawmakers cannot put questions to the President of Moldova, if only the head of state is dismissed.
Anatolie Zagorodnyi told the journalists that Nicolae Timofti made reference to the Parliament’s Regulations that have no connection with the work of the parliamentary commission of inquiry. According to the commission’s regulations, any person summoned as a witness is obliged to appear before the commission.
Earlier, the commission summoned Nicolae Timofti because the head of state made statements about the December 23 hunting incident after January 6.
