A police officer from Nisporeni is accused of exceeding his authority and of humiliating and using violence against a young man. The Nisporeni Prosecutor’s Office sent the criminal case started against the policeman to court, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office, in October 2011, on the pretext of needing to question the victim on the alleged ill-treatment of his grandfather, the police officer paid a visit to the young man at the military unit were he was doing his service. Profiting from the fact that there was nobody at the unit’s checkpoint, he intimidated psychologically and beat the young man.
In November 2011, the same policeman stopped a minibus running on route, on which the young man who was maltreated earlier traveled. After taking him out, the police officer escorted the victim to the Nisporen district police commissariat, where he forced him to take the belt and shoelaces off and then kept him handcuffed to a metal door for half an hour.
In both of the cases, the police officer did not have legal power to do what he did. During the investigations, he tendered his resignation and was discharged.
If the policeman is found guilty, he will serve 2 to 6 years in jail and will be banned from holding certain posts or carrying out certain activities of a period of up to 5 years.
