No concert will be given in Chisinau’s central square on Jan. 7

This year, there will be held no concert in the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau on January 7, when it is celebrated Christmas according to the old calendar. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the head of the Chiainau City Hall’s Culture Division Lucia Culev said a concert was organized on December 25 and there will be no other performance. Dragos Buga, division head at the Ministry of Culture’s Impresario Agency, said the Agency organized Christmas concerts on January 7 in 2008 and 2009. Then, the central square housed cultural events on January 13 and 14 as well, when it was celebrated Saint Basil or New Year’s Eve according to the old calendar. “In 2010, the Christmas events were organized by the Ministry of Culture, not the Impresario Agency. This year, it is the same,” said Dragos Buga. Ion Ciobanu, senior consultant with the Ministry of Culture, confirmed that the Christmas celebrations in the Great National Assembly Square last year were organized by the Ministry of Culture, saying that this year there will be held no events. He did not yet specify why.
