A North Carolina Air National Guard C-17 aircraft landed this morning at the Chisinau Airport to support the “Peace Shield” exercise. The aircraft also delivered medical and defense equipment that is to be donated to the Ministry of Defense as part of U.S. grant assistance, IPN reports.
The U.S. Embassy in Chisinau said that 35 members of the North Carolina Guard and the U.S. Air Forces in Europe will work with Moldovan ministries to implement response tactics aimed at ensuring the best protection for Moldovan citizens in case of civil emergencies.
“The United States is proud to work with the Government and citizens of the Republic of Moldova for a democratic, prosperous and safe future,” reads a press release from the diplomatic mission.
The Ministry of Defense of Moldova noted that the “Peace Shield” exercise has been carried out since 2009. It aims to assess the National Army’s subunits in accordance with the Operational Capabilities Concept (OCC), which is a prerequisite for participation in international peacekeeping operations.
As for the batch of assistance provided by the U.S. Government to the National Army, the aid contains non-lethal medical and defense equipment offered in the context of the “Peace Shield” exercise.
