The leadership of the political bloc NOW says the recent proposals put forward by the Socialist Party conditioning its participation in a coalition government have the potential to divide society and represent a “very clear answer” that the Socialists are not interested in NOW’s proposed “de-oligarchization package” and a minority government.
“It appears that the fight against corruption, the de-oligarchization of the state, the fight against Plahotniuc’s mob clan are not priorities for the PSRM. They are not being honest with their own voters, either, when they promise social policies to them, because when the country is ruled by a bunch of thieves, such promises cannot be delivered on”, stated Maia Sandu, adding that our country won’t be able to rely on foreign funding for social projects as long as the Moldovan state remains “captive”.
Andrei Năstase said NOW is demanding that Parliament resumes work without delay, after the inaugural sitting was “illegally” deferred by the Oldest Member, who happens to be a Socialist MP. Năstase says the parties must be honest about their options and clear about whether or not a majority has already been formed.
Năstase went on to declare that he regretted the Socialist Party’s choice. “They chose the Democratic Party’s agenda, namely of Plahotniuc, and the worst thing is that this agenda further keeps Moldova in its state of captivity, in a gray area of corruption, poverty and contraband”.
Yesterday NOW invited the PSRM to discuss its “de-oligarchization package”. Today, half an hour before the meeting was scheduled to take place, the PSRM held a press briefing to propose its leader Zinaida Grecianîi for Speaker and to announce a series of conditions for a parliamentary majority. The Socialists invited NOW to consider their proposals, adding that further announcements would follow tomorrow on their next steps.
